Areas

Nerja

The easternmost gem of the Costa del Sol — caves, cliffs and a quieter alternative to the busy western coast.

Nerja sits at the eastern end of the Costa del Sol, where the mountains meet the Mediterranean. Famous for the Nerja Caves, Balcón de Europa, and its cove beaches, it is noticeably quieter and more Spanish than the resorts west of Málaga.

The town has a year-round population of around 22,000, with expats making up roughly 25%. Unlike the high-density British areas around Marbella and Fuengirola, Nerja attracts a more mixed international crowd.

For British relocation planners, Nerja offers a calmer, more integrated environment with a genuine Andalusian feel, good access to the Sierra Nevada for skiing, and property that is more affordable than prime western Costa del Sol.
