Torremolinos
The original Costa del Sol package holiday resort — evolved into a busy year-round town with the region's most famous nightlife strip.
Torremolinos is the Costa del Sol's original mass-tourism resort, developed from a sleepy fishing village in the 1950s and 1960s into one of southern Spain's most recognisable destinations. It still carries that legacy — think high-rise hotels, busy beaches and the famous La Carihuela fishing district.
Behind the tourism stats sits a genuine town of 71,000 residents with a substantial year-round population. The Cercanías train links directly to Málaga city and the airport in minutes, making it one of the most accessible resorts for residents without a car.
For British relocation planners, Torremolinos divides opinion sharply. It offers unbeatable convenience, direct airport access, train links and every conceivable service in English — but also density, noise in summer and a commercial tourism feel that lacks the Spanish village atmosphere of Nerja or Estepona.
Who this town suits
Everything in English, direct airport train, established community, mild climate, full healthcare.
Strong summer rental market, direct airport access, property management widely available.
Very high summer demand but also high competition. HET licence required under Andalusian law.
Good broadband, decent infrastructure; may prefer quieter towns for year-round focus.
Activities in abundance, but schools are Spanish-medium. International options in Málaga or Marbella.
