Areas

Orihuela Costa

The British expat capital of southern Costa Blanca — urbanisations, golf courses and arguably the highest British concentration anywhere in Spain.

Orihuela Costa is not a town in the traditional sense. It is a sprawling collection of coastal urbanisations — Villamartín, Playa Flamenca, Cabo Roig, Campoamor, La Zenia — that together form one of the most British-dominated residential areas in Europe.

There is no town centre, no municipal heart, no historic core. What there is: thousands of villas and apartments, multiple golf courses, several beaches, and the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre — one of the largest in the province.

For British relocation planners, Orihuela Costa offers a very specific proposition: maximum British infrastructure, English spoken everywhere, familiar shops and restaurants, and a social life built around golf, bars and clubs. The trade-off is minimal Spanish character and car dependency.

Who this town suits

FamiliesModerate

Safe urbanisations, beaches, some schools. Car essential. Less cultural/educational depth than a real town. English-speaking environment.

RetireesExcellent

The quintessential British retirement environment. Golf, social clubs, English-speaking services, mild climate. Very large established community.

Remote workersLow

Quiet in off-season but no co-working, poor public transport, not a professional hub. Better in Alicante or Valencia.

Second-home ownersExcellent

Very active rental market, especially from British and Irish visitors. Good property management infrastructure.

GolfersExcellent

Villamartín, Las Ramblas, Campoamor, Las Colinas — multiple courses within 10 km. Golf is a major social and lifestyle driver here.
