Areas
Torrevieja
Spain's most famous British expat hub — 52% foreign residents, established infrastructure and year-round sunshine.
Torrevieja is arguably the best-known British relocation destination in Spain. With over 4,700 British nationals registered and a staggering 52% foreign population, it has the infrastructure, services and community that many British retirees and second-home owners seek.
The town sits on two large salt lakes — the Laguna Rosa and Laguna Verde — which give the area a distinctive landscape and microclimate. The seafront promenade is extensive, the beaches are plentiful and the town has a year-round life that many smaller resorts lack.
For British relocation planners, Torrevieja is the reference point. It has English-speaking doctors, British food shops, social clubs and an established support network. However, it is also a town that divides opinion: some love the convenience and community; others find it too busy, too built-up and too disconnected from Spanish life.
