Garrucha

A compact working fishing port with a golden sandy beach, long seafront promenade and authentic coastal life at lower prices than the resort towns.

Garrucha is a working fishing town on the eastern Costa de Almería, nestled between the resort glamour of Mojácar and the golf developments of Vera. Its eighteenth-century castle guards a harbour that still lands fresh fish daily, and the long Paseo de la Marina is the social heart of the town.

Unlike the purpose-built urbanisations nearby, Garrucha has grown organically around its port. The result is a more Spanish, more affordable and less seasonal town — one where the restaurants serve the day's catch to locals as well as visitors, and where property prices remain significantly below those of Mojácar.

For British relocation planners, Garrucha is the unpretentious alternative. It offers seafront living without the resort premium, a genuine harbour atmosphere, and easy access to Mojácar's social scene and Vera's golf courses when wanted. English is less spoken here than in Mojácar, but the trade-off is authenticity and value.
